Day one: 5/30/10 "gotta love jetlag"

So...it's 2010...a time where there is not a problem that modern technology can't solve, except for it took me at least 24 hours to get from Memphis, TN, USA to Floripa, Santa Catarina, Brasil. Oh well...I can't really complain, everything was on time and went as planned :) I mean, I wasn't too worried about much of anything anyway, which is not out of the norm for me, so I was glad that Brittany was on it!!! Couldn't have asked for a better partner in all this...that's mainly because I think she's pretty accepting of me and "my ways". Not only that, but Dr. Fitz and Dr. Padua totally hooked us up with the most amazing apartment in the most amazing part of Floripa. I was not expecting Floripa to be an eclectic, "artsy", hip, surfer town. I guess I was thinking that most coastal parts of Brasil would be exotic and romantic...Kinda glad it's not...Floripa kinda reminds me of Cato in upstate NY or Midtown Memphis!!

Okay, day one!! I was a little homesick last night, just the feeling that I wouldn't be going home to my own bed was a little unsettling. I'm not having a problem as far as the whole "culture shock" thing is concerned, though. But if you ask me about the whole communication thing...ha!! I wasn't off the plane 5 mins in Sao Paulo before some guy comes up to me and proceeds to talk to me in portuguese going a million miles a minute. My response...uh...uh...uh...(stupid blank stare)...this same situation has happened several times so far...no big deal...except when you go out and order dinner at a Cocina Mexicana and end up with a 7 coarse meal where the only difference between the meals was the technical name for the dish...burrito, enchilada, taco, chili taco????? Brittany and I concluded that you can put anything in a flour tortilla shell and declare that it's authentic mexican food!! A couple hours later, Dr. Padua states: "The Mexican food is not good here. Forgot to tell you"

I was sad last night. I went to bed "early", listened to semi-depressing music, wrote in my personal journal about personal issues and finally passed out cold only to abruptly wake up a few hours later. Fully awake. Over being depressed. So I cleaned, drank ALOT of coffee, and ran around our neighborhood :) I have felt great ever since!!!

FYI: Jetlag sucks. But then there's facebook and blogging.
